Rebecca was born profoundly deaf and wore her first set of hearing aids when she
was 9 months old. She spent her educational years as the only deaf person in a
mainstream school. At university, she learned British Sign Language (BSL). She had
surgery for a cochlear implant in October 2022 and writes “so far it has been
wonderful and exhausting at the same time, learning to hear in a different way,
especially the voices of my two young sons, aged 3 and 7 years old.”
