The purpose of The Mandalay School for the Deaf Charity is to provide practical and financial support for deaf and hearing-impaired children in Myanmar (formerly Burma).

Purpose of the Privacy Notice

Data Protection law gives individuals rights to understand how their data is used.

This policy is intended to provide information about how The Mandalay School for the Deaf Charity (“We” or “The Charity”) processes your personal data.

This Privacy Notice applies alongside any other information The Charity may provide about a particular use of personal data, for example, if we collect data from you via an online or paper form. Anyone who works for or acts on behalf of The Charity should also be aware of and comply with this Privacy Notice.

Why The Charity needs to process Personal Data

In order to carry out our charitable aims, we will collect and process a limited range of personal data about individuals in accordance with our purposes and daily operations. Usage of personal data will be made in accordance with the “legitimate interests” of the Charity, primarily to enable us to include you in The Charity’s activities and to contact you about events and activities which we believe may be of interest.

Types of Personal Data processed by The Charity

This will include, by way of example:

  • Names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and other contact details
  • Details of donation history and attendance at The Charity’s events

How The Charity collects data

During your association with The Charity, we will collect data from you. This would usually be in the ordinary course of your interactions or communications with us including email and telephone conversations or completion of event booking forms. In addition to any data we collect from you, we may obtain your personal data from publicly available sources such as websites and newspapers.

Who has access to personal data?

Personal data is stored securely on systems managed by us within the United Kingdom. As a data controller, we may use third parties (such as IT systems providers, developers and mailing houses) to assist us in processing the data we hold. Third parties are subject to UK national data protection legislation.

The Charity will not share your data with any other Third Parties. Officers of The Charity are expected to handle and process data in line with this Privacy Policy.

Your rights

You have control of all the personal data that you supply to the Charity and you are free to give as much or as little data as you wish.  The Charity will endeavour to ensure that all personal data held in relation to an individual is as up-to-date and accurate as possible.

Under Data Protection legislation, you have the right to:

  • Request copies of your data; where systems allow, give electronic access or request copies of your data in digital form.
  • Request rectification of incorrect/incomplete data.
  • Request erasure of your data, object to processing or request restriction of processing.
